Onions Doubled
Two Color Lithograph
14 x 19 1/2 inches
"Onions Doubled" reflects three purple and one white onion in a glass table top. A black velvet curtain creates a feeling of closed space and provides an opportunity for passionate strokes repeating the curvature of the onions and the texture of their skins. Opulent onions evoke memories of the intimacy of a kitchen, of friendly meals with strong smells and brilliant tastes. They also recall the cost of their preparation: tears, and like us, have a limited mortality.
For this two-color lithograph, I drew the same image backwards on two metal sheets. I first printed one with black ink, and after that had dried, printed the second maroon sheet over it, taking care to register the two exactly.
